Some of these may still be available. Unfortunately jhanebarnes.com keeps changing the URL's for shirts, so the URL's are broken.

2005 Holiday collection

This one is really outstanding! A lot of really groovy looks like Euphoria, but if you're constrained to dress more conservatively, Quaver is a white striped shirt with a universe of detail in it.

There's more to it than the patterns. It's great that she's doing complicated textile work along the lines of Basho. For example Twin : "The many colors are made from extra yarn woven on top of the fabric and then clipped away."  You can get a sense of how the dyes and prints look by zooming in on the Web site, but you must see and feel the rich textiles in person.

I also like the way the photos present the torso and trousers, it helps you visualize how the shirt can appear with jeans or dress pants, tucked in or loose. How can anyone with the means NOT wear Jhane Barnes? Look at your torso in the mirror, now look at those shirts. Why aren't you bringing art to the street and looking outstanding?

A lot of the shirts don't have a front pocket :-( It's hard to tell for sure but she may no longer be using buttons with the unique serrated top.

If only I had a huge closet!

2004 Spring collections

More fine shirts. Frequency is somewhat conventional though Metaphore is a striking design. "Collection" has some fine designs like Commemorate, Emerge is another take on the idea of tight planes from Woodwork. If you like knit short-sleeve shirts there are a lot of gems.

There's a news item on her web site about some stores closing. I hope the Las Vegas store will continue, it has a vast selection.

2003 Autumn collection!

www.jhanebarnes.com has a few shirts from the fall collection. "Woodwork" is a stunner, "Cotton/rayon "deconstructivist" ombre plaid shirt" in a novel palette of what looks like gray and gold. "Workforce" could be great too, the "Yarn-dyed jacquard (with stippling effect)" looks like a fascinating texture. "Cobblestone" is a lovely brown shirt, a rare color for Jhane Barnes, a jazzy take on autumn colors.

Update: I ordered Woodwork and Cobblestone from Jhane Barnes Las Vegas, as usual the few Small size shirts sell out quickly so no Workforce. Woodwork is indeed great (I'm wearing it right now!), it's a tough almost harsh pattern that melds steel and fiber. It's very "flat" even at medium distance, but if you look closely there's a universe of detail (as always). One strange departure I didn't notice from the picture is... no shirt pocket!
